Generate placeholder text
The same request always gives the same text. Nothing is sent.
How to use the generator
- Pick the unit: paragraphs, sentences, or words.
- Enter the amount (up to 50 paragraphs, 200 sentences, or 5,000 words).
- Check or uncheck "Start with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet".
- Click copy and paste the text into your design, mockup, or document.
The output is the same every time. Three paragraphs today are identical to three paragraphs tomorrow, which makes it easy to compare two versions of a layout without the text changing under you. Nothing is sent to a server.
Reference sizes
| Request | Result |
|---|---|
| 5 words | Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. |
| 1 paragraph (classic opening) | 69 words, ending in "id est laborum." |
| 3 paragraphs | 3 blocks separated by a blank line, 3 to 5 sentences each |
| Without the classic opening | The text starts at "Sed ut perspiciatis" |
Paragraphs alternate between 4, 3, 5, 3, and 4 sentences so the blocks do not look like one uniform column on the page.
Where lorem ipsum comes from, and when to use it
The text is based on passages from Cicero's "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum," a Latin work on ethics from 45 BC, with words altered and cut until the sense is gone. That is on purpose: the copy does not distract, so attention stays on the design of the page.

- Test line breaks, fonts, and spacing.
- Fill in prototypes, wireframes, and theme templates.
Frequently asked questions
What does lorem ipsum mean?
Nothing. Lorem ipsum is pseudo-Latin filler, adapted from Cicero with altered words, used to fill space in layouts.
How do I generate 3 paragraphs of lorem ipsum?
Choose "Paragraphs", enter 3, and copy the result. The first paragraph starts with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet".
How do I get an exact number of words?
Choose "Words" and enter a number from 1 to 5,000. The output has exactly that many words and ends with a period.
Can I skip the "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" opening?
Yes. Uncheck the classic opening option and the text starts at "Sed ut perspiciatis".
Why is the text always the same?
The generator picks nothing at random. The same request returns the same text, which keeps layout comparisons consistent.
Is lorem ipsum real Latin?
Not quite. The words come from classical Latin, but the text was scrambled so it reads as nonsense. To test accents or capitalization, paste some text into the case converter.
