## How to count the days between two dates

The tool turns each date into a running day number and subtracts. Months of 28, 30, and 31 days and leap years take care of themselves. Full months and years follow the calendar: a month is complete when the day of the month in the end date reaches the day of the month in the start date.

## Common mistakes and edge cases

- Counting both ends: ranges like a hotel stay or a rental term can include the first and last day, and a plain difference does not. Pick the option that matches the rule you are following.
- Months of different lengths: from 01/31 to 02/28 is 28 days, but not a full month, since February has no 31st.
- Start date after end date: the tool asks you to swap them instead of showing a negative number.
- Dates outside 1950 to 2100 are rejected to catch typos in the year.
